We both grew up in Northern California and have always loved spending time in the redwoods, particularly in Del Norte and Humboldt counties. We were very fortunate to have many opportunities—since our earliest childhood memories—to spend time on the Pacific Coast, surrounded by the ocean and the magnificent redwood groves with our Golden Retrievers by our sides (where trail markings permitted). We have traveled and lived many places outside of the United States, but it is impossible to match the unsurpassed beauty of the California redwoods.
When I began my career, my company encouraged philanthropy from all employees via its generous matching programs and Save the Redwoods League was the perfect organization for our charitable giving. During my 40-year career, and now as an annuitant, I have participated in the YourCause Employee Giving Program with Save the Redwoods League as my number one choice for my donations.
In addition, we are also able to support the League by making gifts directly from our IRAs on an annual basis. For us, the IRA charitable rollover is a very useful mechanism to enhance our charitable giving while reducing our annual taxable income.
We have chosen to make Save the Redwoods League a part of our estate plans because the need to protect and restore the redwoods has never been greater nor more urgent. We are very proud of the accomplishments of the League to date and believe that it has the infrastructure and expertise to ensure that our redwood groves will be here thriving now and forever more.
