Kathy St. Johns: At Home in the Redwoods

Stephen Lundberg and Kathy St. JohnsTwenty-three years ago, I wanted to relocate to Northern California. I was driving from city to city looking for a school for my kids. I accidentally drove into a redwood forest and immediately knew I was home. Never have I been so swept off my feet as I was the moment I came upon these giant, majestic trees.

For 23 years, I have lived less than a mile from that spot.

As my kids grew up and moved away, I became very interested in finding a way to protect and serve these dynamic trees. After an abundance of research, I discovered that Save the Redwoods League cares about the redwoods in the same way I do. If I could wave a magic wand and find everything I needed to educate myself and love a species not my own—it was clearly the League.

For over 100 years, the League has been like doting parents to the redwoods, making sure they are safe and caring for them in every possible way. The people who work at this organization are a lot like the trees themselves: understated, strong, and steady.

For me, there is no better way to sustain the lives of these important trees than to lend as much financial support as I possibly can to the League. That's why I got involved with the Redwood Legacy Circle. In addition to my personal interest in learning about and visiting the amazing forests now under the League’s protective wing, I also have the sincere satisfaction of knowing that these extraordinary ancient groves of beauty will be safe and well-managed forever.

My deep and humble thanks will forever be with Save the Redwoods League.
