Susan Juhl: Transforming an Apartment Into a Gateway

Fort Bragg resident Susan Juhl recently seized the chance to make an impactful gift of real estate by donating an apartment she seldom used in San Francisco to Save the Redwoods League. Her gift will support the League’s plans to build a new trails gateway and interpretive hub at the southern entrance of Redwood National and State Parks, a UNESCO world heritage site and home to the tallest trees in the world.

Susan and her husband, Jerry, were lifelong collaborators with Jim Henson, who created the much-loved Muppets, an ensemble group of comedic puppet characters who have appeared in television, film, and other media. Today Susan is a writer, host of a classical music radio show, and a generous philanthropist.

“I was so excited to learn about the League’s vision to reimagine the visitor experience at Redwood National and State Parks,” she said. “I am especially intrigued by the plans for the interpretative treatments and collaboration with Yurok tribes. I want to do something significant to keep this project on track. To think I can turn an apartment I no longer use into a way for millions of people to understand and experience the redwood forest—I’m thrilled to be doing this!”
